Course Description: Ready to take your PDF accessibility skills to the next level? In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to assess PDF documents for accessibility, identify common issues, and use available tools to make improvements. Through guided practice with sample PDFs, attendees will gain confidence evaluating documents and addressing common accessibility barriers.

Course Description: Not all PDFs are created equal! In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn what makes a PDF accessible, how to identify common barriers to access, and why scanned PDFs can present challenges for users of assistive technologies. Through guided practice and real-world examples, attendees will gain the foundational knowledge needed to create and save PDFs that are more accessible from the start.

Course Description: Why fix accessibility issues slide by slide when you can build accessibility into your presentation from the start? In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to leverage PowerPoint master slides to create presentations that are more consistent, easier to maintain, and more accessible for all audiences. Through guided practice, attendees will gain practical experience applying accessibility best practices at scale.

Course Description: Create presentations that are engaging, inclusive, and accessible from the start. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the foundational principles of PowerPoint accessibility, including slide structure, reading order, color contrast, image descriptions, and accessibility checking tools. Attendees will work directly in PowerPoint using sample presentations, gaining practical experience creating slides that are easier for everyone to access and understand.

Course Description: Have an existing Word document that needs accessibility improvements? In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to identify and fix common accessibility barriers in pre-existing documents, including issues with structure, images, tables, and formatting. Participants will work directly in Word using sample documents, gaining practical experience remediating content and creating a more accessible experience for all users.

Course Objectives: By attending this training, participants will be able to:

• Participants will be able to identify common accessibility issues in existing Word documents using manual review techniques and the Microsoft Accessibility Checker.
• Participants will be able to remediate accessibility barriers related to document structure, alternative text, tables, hyperlinks, and color contrast.
• Participants will be able to evaluate the accessibility of a Word document and apply appropriate fixes to improve usability for individuals using assistive technologies.

Participants will follow along in Microsoft Word and practice using accessibility features with provided demonstration documents, so come ready to apply what you learn in real time.

• Participants will be able to create accessible content by adding alternative text, formatting tables appropriately, and ensuring sufficient color contrast.
• Participants will be able to use the Microsoft Accessibility Checker to identify and address common accessibility issues in Word documents.

The Student Experience Project (SEP) is a national initiative that helps faculty improve student success by making small, research-backed changes to the classroom experience. The focus is simple: when students feel like they belong, are supported, and can grow, they’re more likely to succeed.
SEP offers easy-to-implement strategies like using growth mindset language, building a more welcoming syllabi, and creating stronger connections with students that have been shown to improve grades, persistence, and a sense of belonging for all students. Even small changes can make a big impact—on your students and your teaching.

Faculty interested in joining fellow faculty in exploring SEP strategies and sharing what works, will be invited to apply for the 2026-27 SEP in May.

Join this follow-up Q&A session on Thursday, January 15 at 3:00 PM for guided support, troubleshooting, and help prioritizing next steps. We’ll cover questions about the Course Accessibility Report, using TidyUp, and other tools that can help you address common accessibility issues.
